Brushing up on Story and Characters

So since our characters have changed so much our story did too. We made it darker but still bitter sweet. So we had to work on storyboards again to get the movement down. And also experimented with brushstrokes in photoshop for the creature’s outline for animation. Still need to work on that but it is getting better!

The Redesign Continued

So for this week as the title of this little post states, the ongoing redesign for Palette continues.

So far we had added and changed the character design for Creature. He is now less of a bipedal bear thing and more just thing. It is a move towards the better as he grows the fit his changing world and our changing story line.Creature-Line-Up

Oh wait have i told you about that? Our storyline has changed as well, now we have delved into slightly a darker territory for Palette and hope that this change is for the better. Drawing themes and ideas we touched upon in the pre-redesign story into full ideas of their own.

Also changing is the robot and the robot’s world. We have come some distance from our futuristic micro chip design, back to basics, mechanical pumps, switch boxes, and OCD. So far the character of the robot and the world that surrounds him is evolving and being refined to show their concise character and set the other half of Palettes world.Robot redesign_0000Progress modeling robot 3

From Critter to Creature: A Redesign story

So for this week we had to redesign the Critter to suite a darker turn on the story. I will defiantly place this on the site itself when I get over the technical difficulties. But basically we had a list of things to change for the story to evolve:

We had to make the concepts more vague

Make the Robot’s world more ancient and worn out

Critter’s world had to become more spooky and had to have a different kind of organic

Redesign critter so that it wasn’t so “catlike” (that was not intended but oh well)

This is one of the things that happens in this line of business. You think you have something, you get it ripped to shreds, pick up the pieces that survived and try again. It’s an evolutionary process that the strongest pieces survive while the rest of it changes.

World Creations

At the tail end of last week and this week we’ve been hard at work modifying the worlds, coloring the characters, and solidifying the story to get the storyboards going. We got better ideas for their worlds through art pamphlets of Eyvind Earle, who has been a great influence on the forest scenery!

If his work seems familiar, it is. You’ve seen it “Once Upon a Dream” as he was a background painter for Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty” and other feature works. He is a loved painter of forest designs combining Graphic and Organic. Kind of like what we are doing.

Now we’ve got the robot’s world based on the inside of a computer. The colors basic and geometric. This will help when we get ready to render it in Maya.

This was done in Photoshop using vector tools, done by James & Ian.

We also got the header all prepped up and more concept art including the worlds.

Now for phase two of our plans; storyboards!
